It's May. So it is also Golden Week here in Japan. It is time to relax. We can take several days off. We can play. We can study. We can travel. We can go out for lunch or dinner or an ice cream or even a drink. We have plans for GW. I will BLOG those next week. In the meantime, here is the news from wikipedia:
Shōwa Day (Shōwa no Hi) is a Japanese annual holiday held on April 29. It honors the birthday of EmperorShōwa (Hirohito), the reigning emperor from 1926 to 1989. According to the now defunct Democratic Party of Japan the purpose of the holiday is to encourage public reflection on the turbulent 63 years of Hirohito's reign.
Coincidentally, Shōwa Day happens on the same date that in 1946 the AlliesInternational Military Tribunal for the Far East condemned key officials of the Imperial Hirohito government during World War II to death, including former Prime Minister Hideki Tojo.
